The Baltimore Environmental Explorers Summer camp is a program for 5th to 8th graders and provides children with hands-on and interactive experiences, helping to bring all they learn during the school year to life. Each week centers on a Maryland State Curriculum theme and every day includes a field trip.

 

 

Since its initiation, B.E.E.S. has provided fourth through eighth graders with five weeks of exciting summer learning experiences. The core philosophy of this program is, “you forget what you hear, you learn what you read, you understand what you do.” Providing children with hands-on and interactive experiences, helps to bring all they learn during the school year to life. Each week centers on a Maryland State Curriculum theme and includes a daily field trip. Examples of weekly themes include: Living Cities, where students will learn how major cities operate and how cities like New York and Baltimore attempt to take back their green spaces; Baltimore Art, where students visit and take part in activities at The Baltimore Museum of Art, Visionary Art Museum, and Walter’s Art Gallery; Wetland Ecology, learning firsthand from experts at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation how vital our wetlands are, taking trips to Tangier Island, Fox Island, and the Potomac Watershed; American History, visiting Ellis Island, Civil War battlefields, and Washington, D.C; and Maryland Sports where students go duckpin bowling, tour Camden Yards and Ravens Stadium, visit Ravens training camp, and take in an Orioles baseball game . These themes and others help to round out the students’ experiences and provide them with the prior knowledge they need to be successful in the coming school year.
