Role of the Board

Did you know, as a public charter school, PPPCS has a committed volunteer non-profit board of directors made up of parents, teachers, community members, as well as representatives from the non-profit and  business community?  Our role is to uphold the mission, vision and values of PPPCS, as well as provide oversight and support for the school. The board of directors has regularly scheduled monthly board meetings, and you can find out more here  (as well as in the PPPCS Family Handbook) about who we are, opportunities to serve on the board or board committees, and more about our role at PPPCS. The board meetings are open to the public, and information about public comment, agenda and board meeting minutes can be found here.

May is when we bring on most of our new board and committee members and we invite those of you who have skills or expertise in Education, Finance, Governance, Fundraising, or non profits- to consider applying now to serve on the PPPCS board or standing board committees. Information and applications for potential candidates can be found here.  Much of the board work is done in our four standing board committees, Academic Excellence, Finance, Governance and Development, which is a great way to get started in PPPCS board service.

As with all board members and board committee members, you need to be able to commit to regular meeting attendance, have the ability to receive communication by phone and e-mail and have some comfort in communicating ideas in a group setting. Board membership is a three year term, and non board member committee membership is a one year renewable term.

PPPCS also has two Parent at Large and Teacher at Large positions, which are elected by their constituencies (HOPPP parent group and Teachers) and serve a two year term. These elections are typically held in April.

A full listing of board members can be found here and they would also be glad to answer any questions.

The mission of Patterson Park Public Charter School, Inc. is to empower the school community - through a whole-child educational approach in a diverse, community-centered learning environment - to be stewards of an equitable future.
