Congratulations to the 2017 Alumni Scholarship Winner Mecca Lewis!

Mecca exemplifies the core values of PPPCS in so many ways! Our team is honored and proud to have been part of her educational journey and to present her with this award. Mecca is an engaged citizen who uses her art to work for social justice and enacting change in Baltimore City.

Mecca is a leader among her peers. She joined The Intersection where she engages in civic action and helps solve challenges facing our communities. Of her many accomplishments, Mecca campaigned for the Children and Youth Investment Act (CYIA), which is a bill that allocates $11.4 million to youth programming in Baltimore City. Now she is serving on the CYIA Taskforce, the group of citizens steering the direction of the funding allocation.

Mecca was a member of the 2012-2013 8th grade class at PPPCS and graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts this June. She is attending Hampshire College in the fall and is looking forward to forging her own path to help solve racial inequality in Baltimore City.

PPPCS awards one $1,000 scholarship annually to a PPPCS alum in a competitive application process based on leadership and achievement.
