Volunteering

The vision of the Patterson Park Public Charter School Volunteer Program is to provide structure, support, and growth to PPPCS to ensure the sustainability of a positive learning environment for students, families, and staff.

Volunteers serve in every facet of Patterson Park Public Charter School, including on our Board of Directors, in our offices and classrooms, with our afterschool programs, and on special event teams. We strive to complement volunteers’ special interests and talents with corresponding volunteer opportunities, so both the school and the volunteer receive the maximum benefit. The opportunities are truly endless.

Parent/Guardian Volunteering

The PPPCS Parent Volunteer Program is an initiative to involve parents in the education of their children.

We believe in research that shows that “regardless of income, ethnicity, or background, students with involved families are more likely to earn higher grades and test scores, have better attitudes, behavior and attendance, graduate and go onto additional education, and much more” (The Children’s Aid Society, 2003).

Because the principle behind the program is to promote student achievement, PPPCS follows the philosophy that the name ‘Volunteer’ not only means those who come during the school day, but also those who support school goals and children’s learning any way, any time.

PPPCS families commit to volunteering 20 hours every year. These hours are accrued through traditional volunteering, attending school events, and meeting with teachers.
