Enrolling

Patterson Park Public Charter School is open to all children residing in Baltimore City on a space available basis within each grade level. Our school does not discriminate on the basis of intellectual or athletic ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, disability, proficiency in English or any other basis prohibited by law.  We follow all enrollment policies of the Baltimore City Public Schools as they apply to non-zoned charter schools.

There are no formal admissions requirements, but we expect enrolling families to be familiar with and support the mission and vision of the school.  In addition to understanding the PPPCS curriculum and educational program, we expect all incoming families to abide by our uniform policy and commit to 15-30 hours of volunteer activity.

If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity of the school at any grade level, enrollment will be determined by public random lottery for that grade level.

Enrollment Schedule

Every year in the fall, PPPCS begins accepting enrollment applications for the following fall.  In addition, we conduct a number of visiting days and an open house for all those interested in our school.  The schedule of activities for the fall, 2010 school year is:

Accepting applications                        Now and ongoing

Kindergarten visiting days                   November 12 and 18, 9:00

Open House                                        January 31, 1:00-4:00

Lottery                                                 February 25, 9:00

Notification of lottery results               March 2

Admission Practices

Historically, PPPCS gets many more applications for enrollment than it can accept.  For Fall 2009, it received 346 applications for grades K-8.  It accepted 108 students: 85 for kindergarten and 23 for grades 1-4.

Every fall, PPPCS establishes guidelines for accepting applicants and we expect that the guidelines for Fall 2010 will be similar to 2009.  That is, PPPCS will accept 80-85 students for kindergarten and a limited number for higher grades.

We encourage all who are interested to apply by the lottery deadline.
