Philosophy

As a public charter school, we operate under our own governance and philosophy of education. One of the core beliefs in our philosophy is that family involvement in children's education is good for our kids and community. The truth of this belief has been supported in numerous studies and that is one reason why Patterson Park Public Charter School asks that its families share this commitment to participate on every level of the school's operation.

We believe the family involvement in any capacity—helping with homework, attending teacher-parent conferences, volunteering at school, assisting with school events, serving on committees or taking your children to educational and cultural events—strengthens the family bond, connects families to school, and serves to improve children’s outcomes academically, socially and emotionally. By inviting families to be involved as much as they are able, we are able to build our capacity as a school to work together to educate our children and support their development as a school community.

At PPPCS, the family community provides many important needs and vital tasks. These volunteer efforts are critical to the nature and quality of the programs we are able to provide for our children. Therefore, every family in our school is asked to sign a pledge of commitment of volunteer service to the school. For two parent households, this is a 30 hour commitment and for single parent households, the annual commitment is 15 hours.
